POSITION TITLE:                    Autism Support Associate

LOCATION:                              KPAS Dufferin

SALARY RANGE:                     $ 16.83 – $21.03 Hr

POSITION STATUS:                Full Time

HOURS OF WORK:                   30 - 37.5 Hrs per week (Flexible Hours)

CLOSING DATE:                      4:30 pm, Wednesday, May 21, 2008

Key Responsibilities:    

Reporting to the Manager, the Autism Support Associate, as the primary liaison, will provide support, coaching and training in the areas of: social/life/academic skills, communication behaviour management, vocational and leisure activities, to individuals with autism residing in Dufferin. 

Qualifications:

The successful applicant will have proven practical experience supporting adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder, along with strong skills in the areas of verbal and written communication, motivation and teamwork; ability to multi-task and remain calm in stressful situations.   This position requires knowledge and experience in Mental Health.

Post-secondary degree/diploma, preferably in Human Services, and 1 year experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities or completion of Ontario Secondary School (or equivalent) and 5 years of related experience, preferably supporting people diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, are required.  CPI certification and crisis intervention skills are required. Current First Aid/CPR/Pharmacology certification and knowledge of Autism/Dual Diagnosis/Mental Health/Person Centred Planning/Personal Outcomes are considered assets.

A valid Driver’s License, with a minimum G2 standing, a reliable vehicle to be used at work and additional insurance (e.g. 6A rider) are mandatory for this position.
