Kerry’s Place South East Region currently consists of a residential support component which operates out of several homes and a limited community outreach program.

Community Outreach

We currently receive limited government funding for Community Outreach and provide respite support when funding is available.  We provide consultation to local families who are living with a son or daughter with ASD and partner with the Autism Society of Ontario - Kingston Chapter on different projects.

Residential Supports

Nine people live in two group homes located side by side on a 200 acre rural property just outside the Village of Thomasburg  The property features a well-used in-ground swimming pool, a large barn and smaller garage type out buildings. Four people share a house in Tweed.  A house in Belleville has been divided into two units:  two people share the main part of the house and one person has his own suite in which he is learning independent living skills while having the comfort of support staff nearby.  One person receives support in an apartment in Belleville.   All people contribute to the running of their households as they share the responsibilities of cleaning, meal planning and preparation, grocery shopping, snow-shoveling and grass-cutting.

Leisure/Recreational Activities

People attend a number of activities and functions such as rally club dances, movies, bowling,  concerts, shopping, and coffee shops.  Some people have purchased YMCA passes and are busy with step classes, aquafit classes, swimming, using the track and gym.   With funding from Clarica, Sun Life Financial, Kerry’s Place Autism Services is leading 4-H Clubs in Kingston for youth between the ages of 10 and 21.  Click here for another 4-H opportunity.

Another 4-H Project, Animal Friends, is beginning in Kingston on January 18, 2007.  Do you want to know how to care for small animals like dogs, cats, rabbits and guinea pigs? You will learn to properly feed and groom your pet and the basics of training, judging and showing.  We hope to recruit new members to our Club - both those who have a diagnosis on the Autism Spectrum and those who do not.  If you are interested in learning more about this Club, please call (613) 384-7800.

Vocational Opportunities

Work/training placements include Quinte Vocational Support Services, wood-working programs, maintenance and cleaning, running a hobby farm, mail and milk pickups and delivery, feeding birds at a local conservation area, delivering newspapers, volunteering at the local food bank and volunteering at a daycare.

Recent Volunteer Positions

Positions are available at one of our rural residential sites.  Care for 2 horses and 2 donkeys by feeding, grooming, turning out and/or bringing in, and mucking stalls. Location is Queensville. Please contact Cheryl Johnson at 416 523-0359.
