Kerry’s Place South East
Region currently consists of a residential support component which operates out
of several homes and a limited community outreach program.
Residential Supports
Sixteen people live in three group
homes located side by side on a 90 acre rural property just outside the Village
of Thomasburg. The property features a well-used in-ground swimming pool, and a
large barn housing a group of farm animals. There are also three other homes in
the Village of Thomasburg supporting a total of eight individuals and a home in
Roslin with two individuals. Four individuals share a house in the city of
Tweed. Two of our senior individuals share an apartment in Belleville giving
them the opportunity to live in the city with amenities close by and a quiet
retirement atmosphere. One person receives support in an independent living
situation with staff only checking in periodically.
As this region is
expanding a recent purchase of a former bed and breakfast property (containing
three homes), in Campbellford, is in the process of being converted into more
residences for individuals in need of support. All people contribute to the
running of their households as they share the responsibilities of cleaning, meal
planning and preparation, grocery shopping, snow-shoveling, grass-cutting and
gardening.
Leisure/Recreational
Activities
People attend a number of activities
and functions such as rally club dances, movies, bowling, concerts, and more.
Some people have purchased YMCA passes and are busy with step classes, aquafit
classes, swimming, and using the track and gym. Other individuals are school age
and are attending the local high school in various programs. There are also a
few who are artist and have had their art work displayed and sold.
Vocational
Opportunities
Work/training placements include Quinte Vocational Support Services, maintenance
and cleaning, running a hobby farm, community jobs, running other house related
errands and feeding birds at a local conservation area.
Community Outreach
We currently receive government
funding for Community Outreach and provide respite support when funding is
available. We provide consultation to local families who are living with a son
or daughter with ASD and partner with the Autism Society of Ontario - Kingston
Chapter on different projects.
