The 4-H Club

What is 4-H? The Ontario 4-H Program is about opportunities, personal development, making friends, and having fun. 4-H helps young people (10-21 years of age) learn self-confidence and new skills. Members also learn communication and leadership skills, problem solving, and goal setting. 4-H Ontario members can choose to be involved in any of over 60 different projects, ranging from drama to woodworking, life skills to livestock, and square dancing to conservation.

MISSION STATEMENT : "4-H Ontario is dedicated to the personal development of youth while providing a positive impact on volunteers and communities in Ontario."

Kerry’s Place Autism Services is helping to create a new 4-H Club in Kingston.  People will be given the supports they need to complete a 4-H Project.  Half of the members will have Autism Spectrum Disorder, and half of the members will not.  All of the members will be expected to contribute their skills and talents to make this Club FUN!!!

The first project will introduce the members to 4-H.  Explore 4-H gives you a little of everything! Learn about plants, animals, cooking, sewing, communicating and the environment, to help you choose future projects.

Below are other projects from which you can choose:

Animal Friends Attention animal lovers! Do you want to know how to care for small animals like dogs, cats, rabbits and guinea pigs? You will learn to properly feed and groom your pet and the basics of training, judging and showing.  (Recommended for junior members.)

Batter Up! Here is a great tasting project! Learn the basic methods of baking cakes, cookies, muffins and pastries. A wide selection of fun, easy and delicious recipes are included.

Grow Your Own Grow, care for and harvest your own fruits, vegetables and herbs in this project.

Eye On Energy Reduce, Re-use, Re-cycle! Become more environmentally friendly and be an energy conserver.

Healthy Eating "Round the Clock" Put your hand up if you like to eat. Put your other hand up if you like to eat around the clock. If you are madly waving both hands in the air then you need to take this project! You will soon see that whether you are a night person or morning person, a resident of Timmons or Toronto or a kitchen klutz or a chef extraordinaire, you can be a healthy eater. And wouldn't you like to sink your teeth into Cheese Strata, Tuna Turnovers, Popcorn au Parmesan, Chicken Fajitas, Pizza Pockets, Chili Beef Burgers...

Looking Out For #1 Respect yourself! Become aware of healthy living habits through the discussion of nutrition, personal safety and drug abuse.

Protecting Planet Earth Save our planet! What are the sources of pollution? How can it be prevented? How can land be wisely used? How can waste be managed more effectively? Take this project and you'll be in the know!

Safety First - In and Around the Home Look before you leap! Keep out of harm's way by identifying hazards at home and with cars, boats and bikes.

Sew Easy/Sewing Plus Sharpen your needles and your sewing sense! In either the "Sew Easy" (basic) or "Sewing Plus" (advanced) projects, members can make the garment or article of their choice.

Youth Leader Are you looking for a challenge? If so, develop your leadership skills as a Youth Leader of a club. Youth leaders help to plan and carry out activities at club meetings. (Recommended for senior members).
