A little bit of background is good…
Kerry’s Place Autism Services is a family-based non-profit, charitable organization. We are all about families, in all of their formations. Our roots go way back to 1974 when we were formed by a group of families who were tired of not having an appropriate place for their teenagers to learn and grow.
These families took matters into their hands to make sure that their children were given the opportunity to achieve their potential. The O’Neill family owned a farm in the small town of Clarksburg, Ontario and that’s where our founding families planted the seed that has blossomed into Kerry’s Place Autism Services.
In those days, it was normal practice for families to be told that their only option was to put their child into an institution. We are thankful to this founding group of families, and all others who joined them, for not accepting this option.
WE ARE ENTRENCHED IN COMMUNITIES THROUGHOUT MOST OF SOUTHERN ONTARIO AND ARE PROUD OF THE RELATIONSHIPS WE’VE BUILT AND THE FAMILIES WE’VE HELPED.
As an organization, we believe that children, youth and adults with an Autism Spectrum Disorder deserve to live in homes that are suitable to and accepting of their needs – this is what our residential supports and services are all about.
We also believe that, whenever possible, families are stronger together and we’re committed to helping them access the supports and services they need. This can mean being a shoulder to lean on during difficult times; collaborating with like-minded organizations to come up with creative solutions to help a family; and/or keeping our knowledge current in terms of resources and supports available to families. We are entrenched in communities throughout most of southern Ontario and are proud of the relationships we’ve built and the families we’ve helped.
