This project is funded in part by the Government of Canada’s Opportunities Fund for Persons with Disabilities

Worktopia is an initiative that supports youth and young adults ages 15 to 29 with ASD prepare for, obtain and retain employment or become self-employed, thereby increasing their economic participation, independence and labour market contribution.

Through this project, Kerry’s Place has been providing the CommunityWorks Canada® (CWC) program in York and Simcoe since January 2015. To date, 28 participants have achieved enhanced employment through this program. Funding was recently granted to increase our supports to include Post Program Support for CWC participants.

We are excited to announce that our involvement with Worktopia is now growing to include the EmploymentWorks Canada® program, beginning in the Fall of 2017.

EmploymentWorks Canada® (EWC) is a newly designed program that offers employment preparedness training for individuals ages 15-29 with Autism Spectrum Disorder, who are no longer attending school and are seeking opportunities to practice and develop the essential skills necessary to obtain sustainable employment.

It is a peer/co-worker supported program that uses adult learning principals to focus on social, communication and job skills development in a variety of workplace settings and teams. This program involves structured learning sessions, as well as experiential learning at various work sites. EWC aims to improve the employment readiness and vocational engagement of individuals with ASD, while creating awareness of the value and competencies that these individuals bring to the workplace and community.
