  • POSITION STATUS: Temporary Part-Time (Contract to July 22, 2018; two weeks written notice prior to contact end).
  • HOURS OF WORK: Irregular Hours (Days, Evenings; Flexibility Required)
  • HOURLY PAY RATE: $20.82 – 26.01 per hour

CLOSING DATE: 4:30pm, April 17, 2018

POSITION SUMMARY:  Reporting to the Community Manager, the Community Works  Canada, the Program Facilitator will work within the model developed at Southwest Autism Research and Resource Center (SARRC) (or other designated training by the Sinneave Foundation, funder)  in Phoenix, Arizona. The Program Facilitator will facilitate a pre-employment program for youth and young adults with ASD to provide employment readiness training and volunteer experience within the community.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Has full knowledge of the Vision, Mission, Values, Goals and Strategic Objectives of the organization along with their implications and continually holds these important centre pieces of the organization in his/her work and relationships with others
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to continuously improving the Quality of Life of individuals so that they may live with dignity and respect
  • Is responsible for the health and safety of individuals supported by his/her department
  • Does what is necessary to safeguard the Health and Safety of supported persons
  • Ensures that all reports, and files are stored and handled securely and appropriately
  • Ensures that all legislation and regulations applying to the job, are handed appropriately
  • Maintains effective and positive relationships with individuals, family members, external agencies
  • Participates in, and successfully completes all aspects of the Kerry’s Place Autism Services training program and attends mandatory educational sessions (CPI, CPR and First Aid, etc.)
  • Works with youth and adults , one-on-one and in group settings, to implement the plan developed by the Program Supervisor and Program Coordinator
  • Applies an understanding of applied behaviour analysis (ABA)
  • Adapts treatment goals and implements effective programs for youth and adults with ASD
  • Monitors Individual’s progress and communicates with the Program Supervisor and/or Program Coordinator on matters relating to the development/implementation of the CommunityWorks Canada model
  • Supports integration of Individuals in natural settings and environments such as community programs and activities
  • Accesses supervision appropriately, attends and participates in team meetings and implements feedback
  • Adheres to standards specified by the Ontario Association of Behaviour Analysts
  • Follows practices, policies and procedures of Kerry’s Place Autism Services

 

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • University or College Bachelor’s degree in psychology, education, or related social services field
  • Training/education in applied behaviour analysis considered an asset
  • Broad professional knowledge of Autism Spectrum Disorders obtained by special training and/or extensive experience in working in various capacities with this population is preferred;
  • Ability to implement standardized assessments under the supervision of the Program Coordinator or Program Supervisor
  • Minimum 1 year experience working in a human/social services capacity;
  • Experience working with youth and adults with special needs is preferred;
  • Knowledge of the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) and related assessment and therapeutic skill building techniques (including communications) with  individuals with ASD and their families
  • Good understanding of community supports continuum for families with a family member with ASD
  • Current certification in first aid, cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) , and non-violent crisis prevention intervention (NVCI) would be an asset
  • Ability to develop exceptional skills with teens and adults with ASD
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential
  • Strong teamwork skills and the ability to work independently are essential
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Exceptional ability to exercise sound judgment and diplomacy
  • Excellent ability to use time management skills to meet demands of fluctuating, demanding workload
  • Strong ability to demonstrate support and sensitivity to the needs of individuals and families;
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to support families in a manner that is respectful, empathetic, and encouraging
  • Exceptional critical thinking skills and the ability to conceptualize and analyze problems
  • Program Training as provided by Sinneave Foundation (funders) for Community Works and Employment Works
  • A valid Driver’s License, with a minimum G2 standing, and a reliable vehicle are required
  • A current police screening reference check, including a vulnerable screening check
  • French language skills will be considered an asset
