Get active, explore nature and reconnect! Mood Walks promotes both physical and mental wellness by reducing barriers and creating new opportunities for people living on the spectrum and their families to connect with nature and their peers. Hiking combines physical activity with exposure to the natural environment, with proven benefits in promoting mental wellness, and recovery from mental illness.
Participating in the Mood Walks program encourages, supports, and motivates people living on the spectrum and their families to be physically active while experiencing the healing effects of nature. It gives opportunities to spend time with like-minded individuals.
Each session will feature an outdoor component, such as hiking, walking, and exploring nature. A schedule will be provided before the group starts.
This program is a partnership between Kerry’s Place Autism Services, Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), and Autism Ontario.
Pre-Screening Session: Before registration for any group, the child or youth will participate in a group pre-screening session. A group pre-screening session is an opportunity for the child or youth to see what a group at Kerry’s Place Autism Services looks likes. Based on the staff members’ observations during the group pre-screening session, and in consultation with the child or youth and their caregiver, our experienced staff will make recommendations for any service that might best meet the needs of the child or youth. Participating in a group pre-screening session does not guarantee that the child/youth will be enrolled in a particular group or service. Pre-screening sessions are valid for 12 months and are only needed once before registering for a group.
Cancelled by Kerry’s Place: Kerry’s Place may cancel a program due to low enrollment or unforeseen circumstances. If this occurs, and the activity cannot be rescheduled, a full refund will be issued with no administrative fee charged.
Cancelled by Supported Person/Family: Cancellation must be received at least seven days before the start of the workshop/training. A full refund, minus a $25.00 administrative fee, will be applied when seven days’ notice is provided. If seven days’ notice is not provided, a full refund will only be issued if the vacancy can be filled. Refunds will not be issued for a missed day during a training session.
