Campers learned to Pow Wow dance with Shyama Priya from The Wild Moccasin Dancers.  Participants enjoyed learning about the history of Pow Wow dancing, and listening to the stories that Shyama shared about Indigenous culture. Shyama also showed the group different pieces of ‘regalia’ that are used or worn in traditional Pow Wow dances.  She shared how the making of regalia teaches the importance of commitment and patience, as all pieces are sewn by hand.

One participant shared that their favourite moment from Shyama’s visit was learning the Jingle Dance of Ontario, which is a dance that incorporates the jingle dress and is used to tell a story of healing and love.
