Navigating Neurodiversity: A Path to Self-Discovery

January 11, 2022 @ 6:30pm - 8:00pm

Don’t let internet research be your only tool for learning about having a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Join us at Kerry’s Place for an exciting opportunity to learn about ASD from a strength-based perspective. Using fun and interactive activities, participants will explore and celebrate characteristics and traits that make them both unique and similar to others. Participants will also learn about self-advocacy, gain insight into a supportive ASD community, and learn what it means to identify as neurodiverse.

The concepts and content shared in this group, were adapted from the research by Dr. Peter Vermeulen, in consultation with Kerry’s Place Autism Services, along with the Durham Autism Advisory Committee. Sessions will consist of brief lessons, interactive discussion and activities.

Participants will leave the group with:

  • a better understanding of ASD, and what this means to them
  • knowledge about self-advocacy, as well as advocates in the ASD community
  • understanding potential obstacles encountered in life, and strategies to overcome them
  • knowledge about goal setting

Navigating Neurodiversity: A Path to Self-Discovery will be delivered live via Zoom for Professionals and the following are required to participate:

  • mobile Device, Tablet or Computer
  • internet connection
  • speakers and a microphone
  • webcam
