The impact of COVID-19 had a profound effect on a number of business and operational functions, but has been especially impactful on Human Resources (HR). The HR team worked diligently this past fiscal year to deliver services that supported a workforce required to transition to a more remote and digital work environment. In support of business continuity, Human Resources were able to adapt and transform its processes to be more effective, efficient and environmentally friendly. Leveraging technology was a key enabler in support of this work, as Kerry’s Place explored additional avenues to attract, hire and retain new employees.

There was also a continued focus on strategy in dealing with human capital challenges and sustainability concerns related to the pandemic. A number of policies and procedures where created to support the ever changing landscape of employment laws and COVID-19 regulations, while ensuring management staff were provided with the appropriate tools to support their respective employees. A few of the accomplishments from the HR Team are listed below.

Wellness Committee

This past year saw the launch of the Kerry’s Place Wellness Committee, which focused on planning and implementing activities that helped promote a culture of health and well-being. This initiative was especially important given the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic had on mental health overall, particularly with respect to anxiety and distress. The Committee worked on a number of monthly themes that included wellness education and respective staff challenges, and provided additional resources to further engage employees. To kick-off this initiative, all staff were mailed out a Wellness Committee Package that consisted of an introductory letter to the committee, a “Wellness Committee” branded portable and reusable cutlery set, along with a brochure of our Employee and Family Assistance Program.

This initiative has also created a large internal workforce of forty-five (45) Wellness Ambassadors that facilitate health and well-being awareness, education and engagement support in wellness activities and programs.

Recruitment Strategy Review

The Human Resources Team kicked-off a LEAN recruitment process review, aimed at reducing the overall time and steps required to attract, hire and onboard new talent to Kerry’s Place. By enhancing the overall recruitment process, in addition to raising brand awareness, Kerry’s Place is positioning itself to be an employer of choice in the Development Services sector.

Diversity Equality & Inclusions Strategy

Kerry’s Place is committed to being a champion and leader in supporting the diversity of its employees, the individuals supported, and the communities it serves. Diversity, equity and inclusion should be embedded within our culture, with decisions and policies implemented from this particular lens. We celebrate and embrace the work that has already been done, but recognize that this is an ongoing endeavor to ensure that Kerry’s Place is an inclusive, and diverse workplace.
