About the Role:

As a member of the Human Resources team, the Training and Development Manager builds capacity and promotes the use of best practices and quality enhancement across the organization through developing, implementing, and evaluating comprehensive training and development initiatives.  The Training and Development Manager will have oversight for all the training and development across the organization. Work with the team to create a welcoming and friendly environment for persons with Autism Spectrum Disorder, families, employees and the public.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

General

  • Oversees all training and development across the organization
  • Develops and guides the orientation process for all new staff
  • Ensures internal training requirements for all staff are in compliance, such as Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) training and First Aid / CPR Training courses
  • Develops and oversees Kerry’s Place Continuous Learning Centre (CLC), maintains existing training and seeks to improve, create and add new training and content on CLC
  • Plans and coordinates internal and external leadership development; designs internal management development plans, and works in partnership with external providers
  • Collaborates with the community team on creating and delivery of internal and external training, such as ASD courses
  • Partner with the clinical team to create and execute innovative and effective clinically-based training and development initiatives across all regions of the organization; develops education courses related to clinical practices
  • Provides education in a variety of formats based on the needs of the audience; this may include providing workshops, lunch and learns, departmental training sessions, presentations, or creating educational materials
  • Provides in person demonstration of skills and processes when and as required
  • Builds staff capacity through facilitating and providing professional development opportunities and education related to clinical practices
  • Maintains a current understanding of Applied Behaviour Analysis
  • Provides ongoing staff support, mentoring, and teaching pertaining to quality enhancement and the use of evidence-based clinical practices
  • Identifies and uses a variety of techniques to assess educational needs across the organization related to clinical processes and support techniques
  • Assesses and evaluates the efficacy and maintenance of training and development initiatives
  • Facilitates follow ups and maintenance training in a timely manner
  • Through actions, supports the Mission, Vision, Values and Strategic Plan of Kerry’s Place
  • Reviews and adheres to all Policies and Procedures, including: Finance & Administration; Services & Supports; Human Resources; Health & Safety, and all other
  • Adheres to manager responsibilities for Health & Safety as defined by the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and applicable regulations
  • Other duties as assigned

Leadership and Supervision

  • Responsible for the recruitment of internal Learning Leaders
  • Provides direction and oversight to Learning Leaders
  • Collaborates and partners with clinical staff and community staff who are supporting with training and development initiatives

Resource Management

  • Develops and manages the training and development budget
  • Develops and manages projects and training requests within the available budgets and resources

Quality Outcomes for the Persons We Support

  • In collaboration with the Quality team, provide education related to supporting people to achieve quality outcomes throughout the year

Quality Assurance Measures

  • Maintains a strong and up to date knowledge of current Quality Assurance Measures
  • Facilitates regular education opportunities to promote compliance with Quality Assurance Measures and organizational policies

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in education, training and/or Human Resources

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Minimum of three years leading and managing training & development programs and/or department
  • Good understanding of Applied Behaviour Analysis would be an asset (techniques, including assessment of behaviour, development of behaviour reduction or skill-building interventions, and training mediators on behaviour analytic approaches)
  • Demonstrated ability to develop multi-level leadership development programs and strategies
  • Demonstrated leadership experience including mentoring, coaching, and supervision
  • Prior experience developing and delivering training or educational sessions to small or large audiences
  • Strong knowledge of the Developmental Services sector
  • Knowledge of Autism Spectrum Disorder and evidence-based treatment models and approaches.
  • Competency and effective use of database systems
  • Working knowledge of related legislation and regulations such as: Employment Standards Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Services and Supports to Promote the Social Inclusion of Persons with Developmental Disabilities Act, etc.
  • Knowledge of budgeting is an asset
  • French language is an asset

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

  • Must have the ability to complete the Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) certification, First Aid/CPR as well as perform the required physical techniques. Training will be provided.
  • A valid Driver’s License, with a minimum G2.
