WE’D LIKE TO THANK YOU FOR FACILITATING THE AMAZING PEERS PROGRAM OUR FAMILY RECENTLY COMPLETED.

Our 16 year-old son Logan has put many of the lessons he learned in PEERS to use in his daily life, especially when he recently applied for a job. After submitting his resume online (which indicated his PEERS training), the restaurant contacted him to set up a phone interview. We reviewed the lessons learned early in PEERS regarding proper phone etiquette and the steps for beginning and ending a phone conversation.

As with the PEERS training, we practiced simulated calls and prepared talking points for questions we anticipated might be asked, as well as questions Logan might want to ask. The actual phone interview went very well. Logan incorporated the training and the conversation flowed naturally. Soon after, he was contacted for an in-person interview. This is where such things as making good eye contact and good use of body language helped out.

HE WAS OFFERED THE JOB AND IS NOW WORKING PART-TIME!

PEERS prepared Logan in so many ways for fitting into his new workplace, including teaching him how to start and join conversations, trading information, the appropriate use of humour, and handling arguments. The program also prepared him for dealing with issues such as handling teasing, embarrassing feedback, and bullying, etc.

We all learned a great deal from this very solid program and highly recommend it to other families of teens with Autism!
